So, the Olympics have come and gone, and what a spectacle of sport we have witnessed courtesy of Foxtel's brilliant multi-channel broadcast across TV & mobile devices.

For those of us fortunate enough to head over and get up close and personal with the Olympic Games; London put on an amazing showcase. The city had a raw sense of energy about it; from the thousands upon thousands of Olympic supporters heading to the big screens at Hyde Park everyday, to the business workers stopping outside London's pubs when they heard the roar of another English triumph. There's no need to dwell on Team GB's spectacular medal haul, but there's no doubt it added to the sense of excitement that buzzed throughout the country.

The 2012 London Olympic Games launched with a stunning opening ceremony; mixing the British sense of humour with the heritage and hard industrial graft that made it what it is today. From the Queen's faultless role in a James Bond skit, to Mr Bean wreaking havoc with the orchestra; culminating in the rising of the 5 Olympic rings out of the steel works and the Olympic cauldron lighting up the centre of the stadium - the opening night was spectacular!

Now, if you didn't have the luxury of being there in person, Foxtel undoubtedly provided the next best seat in the house.

Through an unrivalled offering of eight dedicated TV channels and streaming events to tablet devices with catch up capability, you could watch every Gold medal event live - which many consumers did. Downloads of the Foxtel Olympic Games App out stripped expectations, with over 160,000 downloads across the Olympic period.

The broadcast coverage earned Foxtel a larger share of the total TV audience than free-to-air channels Seven and Ten at times. The audience peaked between 21:00 and 21:15 on Sunday 29th July, when Foxtel's 8 channel coverage reached a combined audience of 1.4 million viewers.

There is no doubt that Team GB and London itself triumphed with a gold medal performance in logistics, entertainment and sheer inspiration. Yet, for the Australian TV consumer, they didn't miss a thing, the Foxtel coverage provided them with a truly multichannel service that captured everything, plus you could watch it again on catch up!
