AUSSIES ABROAD X GAMES LOS ANGELES ALL ACCESS PREVIEW SPECIAL

22/06/2012

Premieres Sunday June 24 @ 8:30pm on ESPN

With just a week to go until X Games Los Angeles, the  world's leading action sports lifestyle event, ESPN's Award winning Aussies Abroad presents a preview special this Sunday featuring members of the Australian contingent, the biggest international group at the Games*. Hosted By Jason Bennett and Sal Masekela, the program will go behind the scenes with the biggest Aussie names at X Games to find out what makes this group of athletes take all the risks, test the limits and execute death-defying stunts for X Games glory.

Shot on location in Southern California, New York City and Camp Woodward, Pennsylvania, Bennett and Masekela preview the upcoming X Games Los Angeles that begins on Friday June 29 @ 11am AET LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE ON ESPN.

From the legendary Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania, the "Mecca" for Xtreme sports, Bennett talks to reigning X Games Big Air Gold Medallist Aussie Steve McCann about defending his title and the risks he will take to do so. He reveals his fears and the fine line between winning and losing and who will be his greatest competition as he goes for back to back victory. Jake Brown, one of Australia's greatest X Games athletes re-lives the moment that saw him suffer what was considered the worst crash in X Games history in 2007's Big Air when he fell from 40 feet in the air landing on his back and knocking him out for 8 minutes. The vision of the accident is heart-stopping, but Brown returns this year intent on winning another Big Air Gold.

Espn3.com 's Skateboard contributor Chris Nieratko gives his verdict on who to watch including the chances for Aussies Shane O'Neill (Skatestreet) and Jake Brown (Big Air) while Bennett uncovers the youth movement taking over skateboard with five competitors in LA this year aging 15 years or younger. The youngest aged 11.

And finally the legendary Sydney born Robbie Maddison, world record breaker and one of the best FMX riders in the world, who will compete in his fifth X Games gives his verdict on the dominant Aussie contingent competing in Moto X and how the sport continues to produce Aussie champions.

Featuring heart stopping footage, incredible stunts, and the word straight from the source, it's a special not to be missed.

*Note: This year's X Games will feature more than 200 male and female athletes competing in skateboard, BMX, Moto X and Rally Cross events. 14 Aussies will line up next week including Jake Brown, Shane O'Neill, Vince Byron, Steve McCann, Kyle Baldock, Mark Monea, Clinton Moore, Cam Sinclair, Jackson Strong, Jarryd McNeil, Rob Adelberg, Blake Williams, Robbie Maddison and the only female competitor Megan Rutledge.
